How Much Does a Paddle Board (SUP) Cost?

Plein Air Québec·Published on August 14, 2026·📖 1 min read

Paddle board prices by tier, what’s included, and how to spend less without regret.

How much is a paddle board?” Honest answer: it depends mostly on the type (inflatable or hard) and what’s included. This guide complements our complete paddleboarding guide.

The main ranges

  • Entry level (inflatable, complete kit): the best value to start. Often ships with paddle, pump, leash and bag — everything to begin at once.
  • Mid range: stiffer materials (double layer), better paddle, better glide. The “I’ll paddle often” tier.
  • High end / hard board: race or surf performance, ready to go, pricier and more fragile.

What drives price up (or down)

  • All-in kit vs board only: a kit almost always costs less than buying each piece separately.
  • Construction: single vs double layer, rail technology.
  • Accessories: electric pump, kayak seat, better (carbon) paddle.

How to spend less (smartly)

  • Aim for a beginner inflatable kit rather than a board alone.
  • Buy off-season (fall/winter).
  • Don’t pay for a race board if you’re starting: an all-around is plenty.

A PFD and dry bag add a little, but stay inexpensive — see What to wear + safety. A few good-value kits below.
