From the Acropole-des-Draveurs to Mont du Lac-des-Cygnes and the Traversée de Charlevoix: the region’s trail guide, with comparison table.
Between the river and the taiga, Charlevoix concentrates some of Quebec's finest trails — including the most famous of all, the Acropole-des-Draveurs. Here is our guide to the region's hikes, from the mythical challenge to family loops.
Acropole-des-Draveurs — the legend
In Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie National Park: 11.2 km round trip, 800 m of gain, and THE view in Quebec — 700 m walls plunging into the glacial valley. Demanding: allow 4 to 6 hours.
Tips: start before 8 am (summer parking is reserved online), bring 2 L of water per person, and save it for your 5th or 6th hike, not your first.
Mont du Lac-des-Cygnes — best effort-to-view ratio
In Grands-Jardins National Park: 8.6 km round trip, ~480 m of gain. A bare 980 m summit overlooking the Charlevoix crater, the river and the taiga. The perfect intermediate hike.
The other must-dos
- Le Pioui (Grands-Jardins) — the quieter alternative to Lac-des-Cygnes.
- La Traversée de Charlevoix — the legendary 105 km trek, full version (5-7 days hut to hut) or day sections.
- Zec des Martres summit (Saint-Urbain) — panoramas without park crowds.
- Mont Grand-Fonds (La Malbaie) — four-season trails above the valley.
- Le Massif de Charlevoix — hike up or ride the gondola, descend facing the river.
Easy and family trails
- Entre fleuve et montagnes (Baie-Saint-Paul) — accessible coastal walk.
- The Château-Beaumont sector trails in Grands-Jardins — short taiga loops.
- Halte de Menaud (Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs) — family nature stop.
