How to Transport and Store a Paddle Board (SUP)

Plein Air Québec·Published on August 14, 2026·📖 1 min read

Car transport, backpack, roof rack and home storage, without damaging your board.

A big advantage of modern SUP: it’s easy to transport. Here’s how, depending on your board — a companion to our paddleboarding guide.

Inflatable board

  • Deflated, it fits in a backpack and any car trunk.
  • Roll it without tight creases, keep the fin protected.
  • In the bag, don’t leave it for days in a hot car (heat = enemy #1).

Hard board

  • Roof rack with straps and rail pads; nose forward.
  • Padded bag for travel and storage.
  • Never rest it on the fin or leave it in the sun.

Home storage

  • Indoors, at a stable temperature, out of direct sun.
  • Inflatable: stored rolled or lightly inflated, never wet.
  • Hard: flat or on edge, in a bag.

Good storage means years of extra life for the board — details in Clean and maintain.
