Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book?
Yes, reservation is mandatory (or strongly recommended) for nearly all huts — online or by phone with the managing organization.
What is provided?
Typically: a wood stove (firewood often provided), mattresses or bed bases and a dry toilet. Bring a sleeping bag, stove, food, water or a filter, and a headlamp.
Are the huts open in winter?
Several networks are open in all four seasons and reached by snowshoe or backcountry ski; some long-distance trails do close in winter. Check with the operator.
What level is required?
Staying in a hut means carrying your gear over several kilometres of trails. An intermediate level and good preparation (map, weather, self-sufficiency) are recommended.
